In recent years, Stockholm Arlanda Airport has been more proactive in developing its air cargo business. The work has been very successful with the addition of new cargo carriers in 2006/2007 (Cathay Pacific, China Airlines, Jade and Korean Air), plus double-digit growth in terms of tonnage.
We can also see cargo starting to gravitate towards Stockholm Arlanda Airport from other Scandinavian countries, using the airport’s new air cargo services. This trend will strengthen the airport’s role as a gateway in and out to Scandinavia. The outlook for air cargo at Stockholm Arlanda is very positive.
Cargo City – an investment for the future
A few years back, the airport built a brand new cargo apron with parking stands for aircraft up to the size of B747F. At the same time, the land adjacent to this apron was reserved for cargo facilities. Today there are four terminals for different operators and more are on the way. One of the airport’s cargo terminals was already situated in this area, even before the new apron was built. The airport is actively developing the facility as the place for highly efficient, cost-effective and safe cargo operations. This part of the airport is called Cargo City South.
