"The trend in air traffic in the Stockholm region in now much better than we dared hope at the beginning of the year. New routes, low fares and an improving economy in the Stockholm region are a few of the explanations," says Anders Bredfell, Swedavia’s Press Manager at Stockholm-Arlanda.
While the increase in February was roughly the same for domestic and international traffic, the increase in March was greater for domestic travel – up six per cent – whereas the number of international passengers grew by three per cent.
And airlines are investing in Stockholm. With the start of new summer timetable on March 28, Stockholm-Arlanda had new or expanded traffic on some 20 routes, many of these low-fare. This confirms that Stockholm-Arlanda is by far the largest low-fare airport in Sweden, with over 30 non-stop low-fare routes to destinations in Europe.
