The capacity of the airport’s security checkpoints has increased by over 60 percent
On November 6, 2006 after only short notice, the European Union introduced new security rules on the quantity of liquids allowed in hand baggage. The new regulations made the security screening process more time-consuming, resulting in longer queues during rush hours. To deal with this
problem and make things easier for you as a passenger, during 2007 Stockholm-Arlanda expanded the number of passages in the security checkpoints from 12 to 20.
During 2008 the task of improving flows at security checkpoints at Stockholm-Arlanda will continue. This spring a further expansion will occur in Terminal 2.

Arlanda Visitor Center
Since the autumn of 2007, there has been a tourist information centre − called the Arlanda Visitor Center − in the arrival hall in Terminal 5. This is a regional tourist information centre for passengers arriving at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport.
At the centre, you can buy tickets to the Arlanda Express high-speed train, the Stockholm Transport (SL) bus and commuter trains, Flygbussarna Airport Coaches and the Uppsala Lokaltrafik (UL) public transport system, as well as get help with booking hotel rooms.
The centre is staffed daily between 6.00 a.m. and midnight − all to make your travel a little easier and more pleasant.Read more about tourist information at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport

- Air Berlin
- TAP
- Finnair
- British Airways

Improved check-in information
For some people, travel may involve a certain amount of stress, making it extra important for information at an airport to be clear. This is why Stockholm-Arlanda has invested in digital information boards at the entrances to Terminals 2, 4 and 5. These boards show what airlines fly from there, what flights are arriving and departing and what check-in counter you should go to.
Terminal hosts make your travel easier
There are now terminal hosts on duty to answer your questions and make your travel easier, among other places at check-in areas and security checkpoints. There are now 10 terminal hosts altogether at Stockholm-Arlanda, working every day of the week. Before major holidays such as Christmas and Easter, extra hosts are on duty.
100% Shopping Guarantee – get your money back
The EU rule limiting the liquids you may carry in your hand baggage has sometimes meant that people who bought some type of liquid (such as alcoholic beverages or perfume) when flying out of Stockholm-Arlanda risked having their goods confiscated when transferring in the Netherlands on the way to the United States.
This is why Stockholm-Arlanda has introduced a 100% shopping guarantee for liquids. If you unexpectedly have your goods taken away at a security checkpoint at another airport, we guarantee your money back. Would you like to know more? Ask the staff at Stockholm-Arlanda shops.
More and nicer lavatories
It is important to everyone that an airport has clean, pleasant lavatories. Stockholm-Arlanda is working continuously to build more lavatories and improve the existing ones. Completely new lavatories, with photographs by Peter Ahlén, recently opened in the Terminal 5 arrival hall.
Mr Ahlén previously took pictures for lavatories in the newer portion of Terminal 5 that received lots of positive attention in the international media (see the photo at the right).
Child-friendly baggage carts in Terminal 5
Now Stockholm-Arlanda has made things even easier for those of you with children. Child-friendly baggage carts, with a special designed child seat, are now available in the area after the security screening checkpoint in Terminal 5. This is good for you to know, for example if you want to be able to go shopping “hands-free” while keeping an eye on your child.
Terminal 4 – easier for passengers
Various renovation work has been carried out in Terminal 4 to make things easier for passengers by creating more space, improving arrival and departure flows and clarifying information. A new escalator from the upper level has been installed along the façade towards the street.
The passageway from the train station beneath the terminal and the new arrival flow now has a larger opening towards the hall. A wide new stairway has been built up to the security screening checkpoint and the escalators next to the old stairway have been dismantled.
SkyCity gets a facelift
SkyCity, one of the airport’s most beautiful rooms, has been renovated. Since it was built in 1993, SkyCity has been in increasing demand for multiple uses. SkyCity is now better able to handle large events on the Plaza, growing train traffic in the station below it and heavier demand for conferences. But above all, the Plaza has become a more attractive, convenient gathering point for you as a passenger or visitor.
