Trains − the most environmentally friendly mode of transport to and from Stockholm-Arlanda

Trains are often the fastest, most comfortable way of getting to and from Stockholm-Arlanda Airport. They are also the most environmentally friendly mode of transport. You can choose among high-speed trains, long-distance trains and local trains.

Arlanda Express − high-speed trains to Stockholm

Arlanda Express is a high-speed train that goes non-stop between Stockholm and the airport in 20 minutes.

This is what you do:

At the airport, you can buy tickets for the train at the information counters or from the ticket dispenser machines located next to the escalators/lifts leading down to each station. There are escalators/lifts down to the train from all terminals.

Travel to Stockholm-Arlanda on SL and UL - take the “Upptåget” commuter train

There is commuter train service between Upplands Väsby and Uppsala via Stockholm-Arlanda, with an onward connection to Tierp and Gävle, known as “Upptåget”. Upptåget serves the airport every 30 minutes. The trip north to Uppsala takes 20 minutes. The trip south to Upplands-Väsby, where there is a connection to the Stockholm Transport (SL) commuter trains, takes eight minutes.

These trains depart from Arlanda Central Station (Arlanda C). Tickets for the Upptåget commuter train can be purchased at Arlanda C, the Arlanda Visitor Center and at the airport’s other information counters.

SL bus + SL:s commuter train to and from Stockholm

You can take the Stockholm Transport (SL) bus number 583 to nearby Märsta station and change there to the SL commuter train, which travels south towards Sollentuna, Stockholm, Älvsjö and Södertälje. During normal traffic hours, the buses and commuter trains depart every 15 minutes. SL bus number 583 has stops outside all the terminals.

Long-distance trains, SJ

Every day you can choose among 70 long-distance trains to cities in the Lake Mälaren Valley region around Stockholm and to Sweden’s Dalarna and Norrland regions to the north.

Examples of destinations in Sweden directly accessible by train from Arlanda Central Station:

Uppsala, Södertälje, Gävle, Hudiksvall, Sundsvall, Östersund, Åre, Borlänge, Falun, Leksand, Mora, Nyköping, Norrköping, Linköping.

Long-distance trains depart from the underground Arlanda Central Station (Arlanda C). There, the SJ railway company has a travel office where you can buy long-distance train tickets and get information about train times.

Timetables

Long-distance trains, Tågkompaniet

Beginning February 13, you can travel between Gävle and Stockholm via Stockholm-Arlanda with Tågkompaniet on Saturdays and Sundays, with two departures in each direction. The trains also stop in Tierp and Uppsala. You can buy tickets on Tågkompaniet’s website or at the railway company SJ’s sales points.
