New Stockholm-Arlanda tax-free shop best in the world

[2009-03-03 10:29]

Stockholm-Arlanda has the best newly opened airport shop in the world, according to an international jury. Stockholm-Arlanda won in keen competition with London Heathrow and the airport in Macau.

The Nuance Group, which operates several duty- and tax-free shops at Stockholm-Arlanda, accepted the honour in London at the DFNI Global Awards, which is comparable to the Oscar gala of the travel retail trade.

“It feels enormously pleasing that Stockholm-Arlanda’s new shop won in this tough competition. Travellers are demanding better shopping. The new shop is one element of our effort to make the time people spend at the airport pleasant and inspiring. Your journey begins long before you get on the plane, and we endeavour to offer an exciting experience while still at Stockholm-Arlanda,” says Anne-Marie Zuidweg, Managing Director of ASDC, who is in charge of shop and restaurant development at Stockholm-Arlanda Airport.

The new duty- and tax-free shop opened in December and is part of the new Terminal 5, which will be completed in April. In an area of 1,700 square metres − larger than six tennis courts − and with eight metre high ceilings, the shop accommodates a rich array of products adapted to all tastes. In addition to the traditional duty- and tax-free product range, the shop has chosen to stock a number of new brands. Stockholm-Arlanda is the first airport in the world that offers two Swedish-based brands: Make-up Store and Mackmyra Whisky. The shop features the world’s first “snusidor” for displaying snus, a traditional Swedish smokeless tobacco, staffed by a tobacco expert, as well as a chocolate counter with elegant chocolates sold by weight, staffed by a genuine chocolatier.

Stockholm-Arlanda has 49 shops and 35 restaurants, bars and cafés.
